Open Road, Open Sky
Sometimes the best kind of road trip is the one with no real destination. Lyla and I set out just wanting to get out of the house, listen to some good music, and see where the road took us. What started as a simple drive turned into a fun little Kansas adventure, taking us through Hays, Ks, Russell, Ks, and a few other small towns along the way as we kept our eyes open for anything interesting enough to stop and photograph.
This gallery reflects that trip to and from Hays, Ks, with most of the images centered there while also including a few roadside gems that helped round out the story of the day. At first, the clouds felt like a bit of a letdown, but they eventually broke just enough to give me some really nice contrast between light and shadow. That kind of light is what makes an image come alive for me, and it ended up giving the day exactly the kind of visual character I was hoping for.
More than anything, I love that Lyla and I have days like this together. No big plan, no pressure, and no need to spend a bunch of money to have a good time. Just the open road, some road snacks, good conversation, and quality time together away from screens and distractions. Those simple days usually end up being the ones that stick with you the most.
